Frequently Asked Questions

An X-ray is a type of imaging test that allows doctors to view the inside of your body without making an incision. This test helps diagnose, monitor, and treat many medical conditions. Different types of X-rays are used for different purposes.

Preparation for an X-ray is minimal. You may be asked to remove some or all of your clothes and to wear a gown during the exam. You may also need to remove jewellery, eyeglasses, and any metal objects that could obscure the images.

Inform your doctor if you are or might be pregnant. X-rays are generally avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary as radiation can be harmful to the developing baby. If an X-ray is necessary, precautions will be taken to minimise radiation exposure to the foetus.

Most X-rays take only a few minutes for the actual imaging process. However, the entire process including preparation can take up to 30 minutes depending on the complexity of the X-ray and the specific area being imaged.

During an X-ray, you will be asked to position your body to get clear images. The technician will direct you to hold still and may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds while the X-ray pictures are taken to ensure the images are not blurred.
